Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium

The Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium is a cooperative endeavor involving the Technical College of the Lowcountry; Beaufort-Jasper Academy for Career Excellence; the University of South Carolina-Beaufort; the school districts of Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton (Districts #1 & #2), and Jasper counties; and the entire business and military community in the Lowcountry of South Carolina.

The Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium is dedicated to the premise that a four-year degree is not the only pathway to success. The shortage of technically skilled workers in today's work place is increasing at an alarming rate. The Consortium is addressing that critical issue by promoting and facilitating the highest quality technical education to all Lowcountry students.

The vision of the Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium is to be a catalyst for change in education reform. By providing current salary/compensation and labor market projections and by existing as a useful resource for teachers/counselors/administrators the Consortium is helping students and parents make informed career decisions.

The purpose and goals of the Lowcountry Tech Prep Consortium, consistent with the recommendations of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Applied Technology Act of 1990 and the South Carolina School-to-Work Transition Act of 1994, are:

1. To develop and implement a comprehensive career guidance program based on TCL's nationally-recognized "Careers & Choices" model;
   
   
2. To plan, develop, and implement a Tech Prep core curriculum and delivery system which provides students with the technical skills foundation necessary for succeeding in the workplace and/or postsecondary education leading to a two-year associate degree or certificate;
   
   
3. To develop formal linkages among secondary and postsecondary education through formal articulation agreements, joint use of facilities, equipment, and/or faculty, and enrollment of secondary students in college courses;
   
   
4. To provide Consortium faculty, counselors, and professional staff the professional development, training, and in-service activities necessary for successful project development, implementation, and evaluation;
   
   
5. To involve parents, local business/industry/military representatives, and other community members and resources as a vital part of the Consortium planning, implementation, and evaluation process; and
   
   
6. To develop and implement a comprehensive student tracking and information system to assure documentation of articulated course competencies, elimination of duplicated learning, ease of entry into postsecondary institutions, and accountability relative to student outcomes and resource utilization.
